Birgi has a very rich historical past extending all the way back to 3000 B.C. During this time Birgi lived under Phrygian, Lydian and Persian rules and then fell under the influence of the Byzantine Empire. The first raids to this region were done by Seljuks in the 11th century. After the collapse of the Seljuks, Mentesoglu Sasa Bey took control of Birgi. In 1307, Aydınaoglu Mehmet Bey the ruler of Aydinogulları declared the town capital city of the state. Birgi also houses Birgi Mehmet Efendi Medresesi(school), Sultan Sah Turbesi(tomb), Birgivi Hamamı (te Birgivi Bath), Cakırağa Konağı (A traditional Turkish mansion), Aydınoğulları Türbesi (tomb) and the Short Mosque.
